Captains notes are in black... First Mate's are in rust!
11/26 Sitting in Indian River Harbor
As we sit in this harbor and take care of some provisioning
needs and boat care there is not much to report but it does give
us an opportunity to update the site with some new pictures,
take care of some bills and do some boat cleaning as well. We're
awaiting a couple of parts to be delivered to West Marine so
will stcik it out here till Thursday. We hope to see the Space
Shuttle blast off! //GB
I'm finally getting a little time to
write so this will cover my thoughts since St. Augustine. Aside
from all of the boat escapades with diesel engines, filters,
intakes, ad nauseum, seasickness, this has been a fantastic
adventure! The boat is our home now and just like with a house,
you have to work out the bugs....we just have to do it on the
water in unfamiliar places-like pioneers- you really feel
self-sufficient-it's great! St. Augustine is worth a visit- a Spanish
influenced gem of a city on the water. It's quaint and charming
with a wonderful history. It was founded circa 1565 but we
acquired it in 1821. The city has red-tiled roofs and numerous
churches with a Spanish flair. Henry Flagler-the railroad
magnate who literally opened Florida up to tourists built
incredible hotels that attracted the Great Gatsby crowd of the
early 1900's. He collected "collections" of that time
and his hotel-now a museum- is a true walk through life at the
turn of the century! The Castillo fortress complete with
drawbridge was a reminder of Florida's very early history. And
now we sit here near Cape Canaveral with the space shuttle ready
to launch this Thursday! Still no alligators-I'm told by locals
that they lie just at the surface and look like driftwood. If
they are frightened they slowly sink down in the water so you
don't even notice them-I still want to see one...let them notice
me. Hope all of you had a peaceful Thanksgiving-lots to always
be thankful for and to remember this difficult year. Seeing
Noelle for the first time since we brought her to college was
wonderful-she looks great for a first semester freshman! Being
with Gordon and Chris and Noe was so much fun. George and I are
not mouse people-but Mickey was in full swing for all of us
mouseketeers. Epcot is o.k. -it's like the old World Fairs-the
rest is pure Disney at a very High price for most. Once you are
in any of the 5 parks- you are a captive audience with captive
prices. We stayed at the Coronado Springs Disney resort which is
very nice and Uncle Gordon got his ice cream on Main Street-he
is a #1 uncle! As always-being with everyone went way too fast
and I can't wait to be with the kids in the Bahamas. I did get
to see "mi amiga siempre" and her beautiful family .
Karen and Paul came by the resort for coffee and talk- no big
whoop-and it was terrific-like no time had passed-hadn't seen
each other since our son Roger married the best daughter-in-law,
Marie! Couldn't get over how the kids had grown-surely it's only
the kids getting older, right? So now here we sit on the Banana
River-and I need to go do some laundry on the Banana River-some
things never change-even on your way to paradise.
