Captains notes are in black... First Mate's are in rust!

10/30/02 Down the ICW again

Since our last entry, we spent about a month on land in Virginia and NY and sadly mourned the passing of Janet's dad. It was nice to be able to be with him at the end but sad for all concerned. I will always admire his sense of humor and remember what a wonderful life he led and how he welcomed me into the family. A great guy.
After the funeral, we drove up to Annapolis and Solomon's for the boat show and got to see friends Tony and Kathy again along with a mini-Bahamas reunion with the crews of Valhalla, and Chinook as well. We also ran into several other friends so it was a good trip.
Deltaville Yacht Yard had Camaraderie back in the water and spiffy once again so it was time to head south.
We had a final dinner with son Rog & D-I-L Re and our traditional "Soprano's" night with Luciano & Joanne and then headed out to Deltaville.
We had a final get together on the boat with Tom & Trudy of Dakota Sky and Mosby West managed to squeak in a quick visit so we managed to see everyone before casting off and heading to Norfolk.
Now, two weeks later we are in Savannah GA and should cross into Florida by the weekend. The trip has been thankfully uneventful so far and we've been pushing hard to get south quickly. Unlike our first trip, we've seen most of the towns along the way, so we haven't lingered but we did give ourselves a day off today in Savannah which is one of our favorite towns. We've been loosely traveling with Pat and Marney of Best of Times and it has been nice to have their good company along the way. We also ran into "Riverdance" yesterday who we last saw in Marsh Harbor and we know from our e-mail that "Iolani" is somewhere close by so it's nice to renew old acquaintances. Already I'm more at "home" than I was the whole summer in Maine.
Surprisingly, the ICW has been easier to navigate than it was coming up in the spring and it seems as if some maintenance dredging has been done in some of the spots that gave us trouble on the way north. Of, course...Florida remains ahead of us so we'll have to wait and see if we find the bottom before making it all the way!
The next 3 days will find us in isolated anchorages as we make our way through Georgia with another stop at Cumberland Island and then we'll cross the St. Mary's river into Florida. We plan to spend a couple of days in St. Augustine then push again till Vero Beach which we also love. We'll also spend some time in Lake Worth and hopefully get to see our newest little cousin Dominic before heading to Miami and jumping off for the Keys and the West Coast of Florida where we'll hang out and cruise during the holidays.
We haven't added any pictures lately as the ground we've covered is the same, but we promise to add more as we get into new territory! Stay tuned for more adventures....//GB
